each time I try to run system restore I get the system restore error where it asks if you want to send an error report to MS. the info in the report is

    AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009826

does anyone know what the problem is. I have already ran sfc /scannow.

    Another approach:

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore folder and rename rstrui.exe to rstrui.xxx. Reboot and System File Protection should replace it. If it is replaced click on it and test System Restore.

If that doesn't fix it, try reinstalling System Restore. All existing restore points will be lost, but that really doesn't matter because System Restore isn't working anyway.

    How to reinstall System Restore:

    Hello kiddk,

Before using the "re install ", disable/ re enable SR, see if that works first, then test.

Right click My Computer > System Restore tab > check turn off.. > reboot > re enable.
