Netscape 7.2 profile disappeared this morning! Help!

My Mozilla|Profiles folder has two folders. The one which came first, and is commonly used is named default, lower case. In addition, there is a Default User profile. I don't know where it came from, but it has been used once.
Anyway to resurrect, i.e. link, the existing profiles to an existing program, it is necessary to get the exact name. So, if all the data is in the default folder, then the lower case should be used.
Bob, since you said that you never saw the profile manager before, I would like to know if you see anything in the "existing profiles" in the Profile Manager. But modifying slightly Ramona's path you should have this path:C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\12bcd43j.slt
Is this where you see all your data?

This is exactly why I (personally) NEVER have or allow to exist any Profile named "default ", "default user" or any variation thereof. It just adds to the confusion when trying to get advice from others.

Profiles should have descriptive names - if you have several different versions, the name should include the version number
eg
captjldd_sm_1.0b -
No white spaces, No upper case
This indicates captjldd on seamonkey version 1.0b

captjldd_moz_1.7.12
indicates captjldd on Mozilla version 1.7.12
and so on.

If you deleted your profile by mistake, have you gone into the recycle bin and see if its there! or if you have norton Anti virus they may be in the protected files (mine keeps them for 5 days) worth a look

Hi Ramona I am not sure this is what you are talking about, but if you right click on your recycle bin, select properties then on the window that opens click on Norton Protection, then under system settings,Exclusions you can add any file to exclude

Well, I can't get to Norton that way on 98SE, but yes, that's my reference. To the Exclusion list, these are two of the exclusions I added, to avoid having Norton steal my Inbox:

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\bigbird\12ab34cd.mojo\Mail\pop.isp.net\Inbox

*.msf

 

Are you using Norton 2005 or newer ? I didn't see the protection on the recycle bin untill Norton 2005. I just happened to see it by accident,I was looking for a file I had deleated the day before. When I opened the recycle bin, what a surprise to see that Norton had its fingers in there!

 

I had problem with Norton 2000, or so, may be earlier, and whatever changes they made over the years seem to have brought back the same problem.
I was able to return my original Norton, and I don't know if I would ever trust them. But, it does not seem to be their way to do things.
They will go after the Mail, but not the entire profile.
