Hi All: Opened "Network Connections" and found a new entry that I have never seen before, "Incoming Connections" and have not got a clue as to what it is.

I have a home network, three computers, it worked fine without this entry.

My ISP recently bumped up my DSL speed, I thought it might be something from them, but they say no.

I just downloaded the latest XP security update, the WMF file fix, so maybe part of that? Or, maybe I've been hacked? Is this possibly some kind of trojan?

If somebody knows what it is and where it came from, I would appreciate hearing from you.

I'm attaching thumbnails of the entry and it's properties.

    Thanks,

    Take care,

    Martin

Hi Tony, Good morning. That web page is interesting, aimed at XP Pro users, (I am running "Home ")

However, I did not, as per these instructions, set up a new network connection for "incoming connections" I would have, if I thought I needed it.

Yes, my modem is (or was) set up to receive faxes.

I say "or was ", because in the dialog box, the modem is not selected.

I guess that it is an incoming connection? Now disabled? And the parellel port? Used to have a printer there, long gone.

I have been sending and receiving faxes for a couple of years, all without this "incoming connections" showing up in "Network Connections "

    I am still puzzled.

    Thanks for looking at it.

    Take care,

    Martin

Edit: Hmm, I just remembered, a couple of days ago, I got an additional network icon in my task bar that I didn't understand, moused over, it said network connection xx 10mbps. I tried to close it, but XP told me it was in use by another user. It happened a couple of times. What the heck is going on????

Hi rsinfo: I don't know what a remote access computer is or does. I have deleted that "incoming connection ", read the information you linked me to, but don't understand. Also, the one OS that is not listed on the web page as being able to have incoming connections is XP Home, the OS I am running.

Thanks for the information, but somehow I don't feel enlightened.

    Take care,

    Martin
