machine powers off / xp hangs 2 probs

Hi help anyone ?
for the last month my pc will power down in the middle of doing

something. There is no pattern I can detect. Pressing the power on

button thern has no effect, I have to remove the power lead and

reconnect it then pressing the power button will restart the machine.

Happens 5 or 6 times per week. Separate problem the machine will hang

- no response from keyboard or mouse. This has happened when

defragmenting the disk, when running VET virus full scan.
The last time it happened I rebooted and XP loaded and displayed the 4

users where you select which user is logging and at that point the

mouse [and everything else was frozen - restart only option . I had

recently fitted a 2nd disk and suspected maybe power supply was

overworked so I bought a new case and power supply - 2 hours later it

hung and then this morning it powered down while no one was using. All

I can think it is either Ram processor or motherboard. Oh nothing in

the event logs and also I run Zonealarm Adlib NoAdware & system works.

Short of replaing hardware p9eve by piece I have no idea how to trap

the fault - any ideas people ?

Hi Charles,
I ran the utility and tried to paste in the report and my mchine hung.
I did it again and exact same thing. I was gittin kinda overwrought by the time. I disconnected both hard disks and pulled one out of an old spare win98 machine. Stuck that disk on and ran full scan disk and defragger over night not a problem at all. I then took the "offending C" drive and inspected it and instead of reinstalling it properly just connected the cables with the drive sitting beside the mchine to do some urgent work. It has run for 2 days. I have run Vet scan , NoAdware scan in parallel and started 3 explorer sessions in parallel copying 500+ meg around - won't fail. I'll paste in the log you requested but I'll send this message first in case it hangs. I was looking for an option to add an attachment but couldn't see one so I'll just paste it in ,
I'm still thinking hardware intermittent connection or such like but who nose !!
