That's what it's telling me when I first boot up, before Windows opens, anything. I am trying to get my new CD-RW to install. I unplugged NOTHING but what was on the Cd drive, then I plugged it all back in....so why won't it work? doesn't even show in Device mngr....any suggestions? If I didn't unhook anything from the Motherboard, then it shouldn't be a jumper problem, should it?

We need to know the drive arrangement of your system - how many hard drives, how many optical drives. Is it just the new CD-RW that is not being recognised?

Check that it is set as Master or Slave - exactly the same as the drive you removed and check all the ribbon cables and power cables to all of the drives.

Although the new drive is not recognised in Device Manager does a light come on on it when you boot?

Yes, the light comes on and the tray will open and shut by button.
It's a Opti-Plex GX150, 1 hard drive, 384 mb ram, I cd-rw that's not there..lol and a floppy. I never touched anything like the jumpers, master/slave...kinda greek to me. don't know how to chk. But if the other was working, shouldn't this one? I just couldn't burn with it, it was just a rom. Don't know what boot menu is set at. Will chk it out...We, my husband and I, re-installed it last night b4 I wrote here. everything's just like the other was. Just get that message, "secondary hard drive not recognized "
    TYVM for your help.

As the light comes on on the new drive it is getting power.

Did you receive a manual with the new drive? - this should include details of the jumper settings. It could be a jumper setting - Master vs Slave, as these are set on the drive itself. I am not sure of the default setting as delivered, but would guess that it may well be master.

Are both the hard drive and the CD-RW on the same ribbon cable? - if so the CD-RW must be Slave.

If the CD-RW is on the same ribbon cable as the hard drive did a new ribbon cable come with the new drive? If so configure the drive as Master and connect it to the motherboard to EIDE2 - alongside the socket to which the hard drive ribbon is connected. using the new cable. The drive should be on the end connector on the cable - not the intermediate one.

As a check temporarily reinstall the old drive - if this still works then there may be a problem with the new drive - so check the jumpers.

Feel free to post the make and model number of the drive and I will try to find the manual on the web.
