new old computer (compaq 5465 presario) having problem with it shuting down,it doesnt want to. it will sit there with the windows will shut down forever so you have to push the button. ok im slow, but i finally noticed that the green light is always on (floppy disk light) could that be the reason that it doesnt complete the shut down because it thinks the floppy is working??

can i go to device manager and disable it and see if that helps or do i have to open and physically disconnect it?

Do you have an antivirus program running? If so, it may be trying to scan the floppy drive on shutdown, there's no disk in the drive but it never gives up trying.

If that's the case, disabling the floppy scanning in the antivirus program's Options may solve the problem.

If you've just built the machine or replaced the floppy drive then it could be that a ribbon cable plug is round the wrong way.

Sccenter is a Compaq proggy - probably also HP now

    lkernel is InstallShield

    em_exe is a Logitec Mouse

Knlwrap may - or may not be a bit iffy as it is a keylogger - maybe Logitec? http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/knlwrap/

instantaccess is either a dialler http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/dialer.instantaccess.html or a process which belongs to Xerox's Textbridge OCR software.

    Molmon is ???

Try disabling/disconnecting the drive and see if the problem is resolved.

I do not like the sound of that. I would say that it is malicious software.

I have also come across Instantaccess, it could well be the reason for the failure to shutdown.

I would definitely stop both of those programs running and if molmon cannot be identified, I would stop that as well.

Jan, update and run your antispyware programs. If you cannot disable or remove those programs put a post in the Security forum.

to all of you that have helped me,thank you very much

i think that i am going to go into the tower and disconnect that floppy and see if that helps. but first im going try something else.

spoke to hp and they said take the clock out of mother board for 5min then put back and see if that helps with the light. they said that the clock looks like a nickle, hope thats true. if that dont work, out comes the floppy.

I would not disable it or worry too much. They say that that filename can be used by some spyware or adware programs. It will be picked up by your antispyware program if it is not legitimate. Being a Compaq computer it should be legitimate. If you were to disable it (note: disable it, not delete it) you may find the computer will not function correctly...you will then need to get "fast and qualified technical support from the manufacturer"
Better leave it alone unless your antispyware or antivirus says otherwise.
