I'm trying to help a neighbor with what appears to be a spyware problem of some sort. She has AVG, SpyBot, Adaware and Spyware Blaster installed. I updated all of them and ran scans with Spybot, Adaware and AVG. All three fixed some problems including some downloader trojans and something called SpyAxe. There is an annoying pop-up message appearing in the system tray that reads:

    Your Computer is Infected!
Dangerous malware infection was detected on your PC. The system will now download and install most efficient antimalware program to prevent data loss and your private information theft. Click here to protect your computer from the biggest malware threats.

This message pops-up about every 5 to 10 seconds. Also, when she trys to set her homepage to ATT.net, it redirects to www.systemwarning.com.

I'm posting the HJT log in hopes that someone can find whatever is causing this problem. I've advised her not to go online until we can get this removed so as not get any more infected than she is.

That lovely message is still coming from SpyAxe.

See if this link gets rid of any leftover pieces?

I believe that it's due to
    O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {e0103cd4-d1ce-411a-b75b-4fec072867f4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp7623.tmp

So, if the popups are still there, use HJT to remove this entry.

You can also do them a favour and get rid of FindFast at the same time, which should result in a little performance improvement.

And, see this thread about "How Did I Get Infected in the First Place? "

    Hi WhitPhil,

Thanks for the reply. It will be tomorrow night before I can give this a try, but I will post back with the results after following your instructions. I thought it might still have the SpyAxe thing, as the web page that you get redirected to has info about SpyAxe on it as well as other things. I'm surprised that Adaware was able to detect it but not completely remove it. SpyBot also found it and said it removed it.

    Hi WhitPhil,

I followed the instructions in the link you posted and I believe that the remaining parts of SpyAxe are now gone. I'm posting another HJT log to be sure, but the web pages aren't being redirected now and the annoying pop-up is gone. Thanks very much for the help.
