Possible Virus [HJT Log]

    Hi all. First time poster here. I have had viruses in the past and to make a long story short I have had to make many trips to the local computer doctor with my laptop and spent hundreds of dollars to get rid of them and even had to replace the motherboard due to damage. I am trying to avoid all of that this time around.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 5150, running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. I am getting several popups every few minutes. The main ones coming from ads from http://www.0dp.com and http://ad.firstadsolution.com among others. None of the popup blockers will stop these. However, this problem is only the beginning. My internet explorer will randomly freeze (even if only one window is open) and will have to close. It will go to "not responding." My computer is also running slower, and programs are taking longer and longer to open. I have run, continue running in the background, and still trying McAfee, AVG and Spybot. They have caught a few things, including "Trojan horse 22.c" (something like that:confused: ) but the computer has not improved after several restarts. I need to know what to do at this point.

    I've restarted this post about 4 times so far due to the explorer freezing up, so I hope it goes through this time. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    First of all, welcome to the board. I'm sure the good people here can get you going again without major expense. A couple things I would suggets are online scans of your system to see if they pick up anything. Try Housecall and Activescan for starters. You may also want to post a HiJack This log. That is where I would start. You may have to close any programs that you have running in the background.

    Popup Blocker ANd AV

    Hi,
    i would suggest you to download and install Google Toolbar , which comes with Popup Blocker you have to Enable it only rest is done by Google Toolbar ,you may try another AV thats Avast Home Edition (free for Home Use) its really good AV Software i have tried it all. It works great .

    Ghemant- thanks for the suggestion. I have Yahoo! toolbar and the popup blocker does not block these particular popups. :eek:

    The main problem is that explorer will completely freeze and go to "not responding" at random times (It did it twice while I was typing this post for example and I have had to start over). Even if I don't touch the mouse or switch windows... explorer will freeze and I'll have to press Ctrl/Alt+Delete to end task and start over. And it is only getting worse.

    Okay I closed just about everything running in the background except for virus scans, toolbars and some kind of HP Imaging monitor that I didn't know how to close. lol. Thanks everyone in advance!:D

    From what I could gather from the log - you are running 3 antiviruses at the same time ! (AVG, McAfee, Norton). You should be running only one at a time otherwise there would be utter chaos.

    Coming to your pop up problem, I have found that blocking the sites in 'hosts' file is the most easy way to get rid of 90% of these pests. Download http://hostsman.abelhadigital.com/ and install it (as administrator). This would block most of pesky sites.

    You should also block the sites thru Internet Explorer. Try 'SpyWareBlaster' at www.javacoolsoftware.com .

    Also download and install 'AdWare SE' - www.lavasoftusa.com

    This should give you a starting point. I actually use ALL of them and some more.

    RSinfo- thanks for the suggestion! However, instead of blocking the popups through a popup blocker and only masking the problem, I wanted to be able to completely rid the computer of what is causing the popups to begin with. In other words, I wanted to stop them at the source!

    Also, please note that the popups are only part of the problem. I am also having a really hard time with Explorer freezing up at completely random times. Thanks so much!!

    Download and run the coolwebsearch removal tool

    Go to control panel / folder options/ view
    set to show hidden and system files
    Uncheck hide known file extensions
    uncheck hide protected files
    Boot to safe mode (tap F8 once a second on bootup until you get a startup options menu and choose safe mode)
    Run hijackthis with all other windows closed and put a check by
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jumbo Updater] C:\WINDOWS\system32\jumb.exe
    and click fix
    then locate and delete the file.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jumb.exe

    Same for this entry

    put a check by it and choose fix
    then delete the file

    Oshwyn- Okay I did everything you said.
    Except that two of the files jumb.exe and qwinosap.exe were not on my system to delete after fixing the entry. Also the "O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)" entry was not found at all.

    Here is my new log file. Thank you so much for your help. :)
