    Hello all,
I have Windows XP pro which I recently reinstalled. Then I downloaded Netscape 7.1 (streamline version) from Sillydog. I haven't yet been able to open it. When I click on the icon my screen goes black then flashes (I can see my desktop for a fraction of a second) then dark gray then goes back to my regular screen as if I hadn't done anything! I get no error messages or maintenance. I can get online no problem from my server, but I would really like to get Netscape up and running to manage my emails and address book.
I've tried uninstalling Netscape and reinstalling it completely (twice-not each time from SIllydog). THe same problem occurs. The file size is 16.9 Ko, with 40.0Ko on hard disk. It seems as if something (like McAfee??) is blocking the launching of the software. I have "authorised Netscape 7.1" in the parameters of McAfee. THis changed nothing.
THe other post I saw about not being able to boot Netscape 7.1 involved an error message which is not my case. I'm really in the dark about this! THanks much for any ideas, and happy New Year.

Why Netscape7.1. It is obsolete, as any Netscape suite (i.e. browser+mail) is. I am assuming that you are using dialup, because it should be no problem with broadband, unless you have some permission problems.
If you had never installed any Netscape6/7 or Mozilla on your computer, it should work, unless you brought over some stuff from another computer.
Have you looked at "similar" threads, just below the messages? Uninstalling 7.1 may not be enough.

    Welcome to the Forum, maggieb!

    maggieb,

See if this Netscape Solution is helpful: Netscape Won't Start

This is only one of the bugs in the obsolete application, not to mention security vulnerabilities, which have been addressed in the newer versions of Mozilla, and Firefox. I would take Westside's advice and instead, install another browser.
