    Hello all,
I first want to say Happy New Year to all. Now my question.

I do not want to get rid of my log on screen as many have asked about before. I want it to act as my other computer does.

Both PCs have the same operating system Windows XP Home. Both have the Guest removed. Both only have one log on user. Both are password protected.

On my other computer when I boot I end up at the same Welcome Screen in XP. Both computers say "to begin click user name ", but the difference is one has already opened the box for the password to be entered.

This is nice since I am the only user and I hate grabbing the mouse and clicking the only user to get to the Password Box.

I would love to know how to make both act the same.

    Thank You,
    fliersrr

    This should help you...

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827072/en-us

It is to do with the .net framework; in my case it was okay under 1.1 but installing the new 2.0 framework as caused this problem for me. If you are using 1.0 then it should be okay when you install 1.1

Thank You Zaykan for your input, but it did not help.

I installed 2.0 again and it still did the same thing. I then checked the version in my other PC and it is also the 2.0

I read the link you sent and the problem they describe is different. I have a password and want the windows welcome screen. I just want the password box open, ready for me to type the password in. I don't want to have to click the user icon, since I am the only user. One of my PCs has the password box open upon boot, the other one I have to click the user icon and then type in the password. Both have Framework 2.0

Sure wish I could figure this one out. Thanks for trying.

Well, I don't know for sure but I think maybe this will help. Control Panel>User Accounts. Click on "change the way users log on or off" and uncheck the line that says "use the welcome screen ". I think that may get you the password box instead of the picture thing. You can check your two computers and see if this setting is the same or not.
