When i put a CD or DVD into either my CD or DVD drive on my XPHome SP2 machine it does not recognize that i have changed discs. I have to disable the hardware then re-enable it for it to look for the new disc. How can i fix this?

Put a cd in the drive and then right click on the drive in my computer and choose explore. Now, while viewing the files on the cd in windows explorer, remove the cd and put a different cd in the drive. Then click on the title bar of the windows explorer window to make sure the window still has focus. Now, press the f5 key. Does the explorer window refresh and show the contents of the new cd?

If nothing there works maybe you can fix it in regedit. Open regedit (start>run>regedit) and go to this registry key.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
Look in the right pane for a value named Autorun. The data for it should be set to 1. If it's set to zero, change it to 1. It may require a reboot. Don't know for sure. If the Autorun value isn't there you can create it by right clicking in the right pane and select new>DWORD. Name it Autorun and then give it a data value of 1.
