When installing software from cd for Epson picturemate 100 photoprinter, the
Windows add hardware wizard window appears with the message - " error in
installing Epson 100, this hardware may not work properly, press finish to
exit this wizard." When I click on finish the window disappears for a second
and reappears. At the same time a baloon appears at bottom of screen - "found
new hardware, Epson 100 photoprinter "I can't get rid of either message ,no
matter how many times I try they immediately reappear. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the software with the same results. The Epson software installs
ok and runs ok but the above messages appear and remain on screen no matter
    what I do.
    Any solution would be appreciated.

Something odd there Seamus. Windows cannot announce that it has found new hardware - Epson printer unless you have already plugged in the printer. Disconnect the printer completely before installing the software.

The sequence of events are,(per epson installations instructions)
Insert and run Epson installation cd,
When prompted, connect usb and power on printer,
When printer is connected as instructed, the trouble begins- Windows new hardware wizard runs at same time as cd installation.
At that point Windows message "there is a problem etc. and baloon appears - "found new hardware- Epson photomate 100 "
Then everything freezes, - cannot close wizard or baloon, both of which remain on even after reboot???

lose the Cd and go to espon.com ... dload the latest driver setup

    other things:

    1) eliminate everything in startup to ensure a clean environment before setup - google mike lin startup control panel maybe for help here
    2) create a new admin level account - so that's clean - and install from there
    3) basic diags - like check disk 'fix auto'
    4) use devicemanager to kill all usb stuff. reboot and let win re-install them

Try copying the CD onto hard disk and then installing from there. Have you disabled your anti virus as some of them can trash some updations.

Thanks guys but still no luck. Epson software now running perfectly but as long as the printer is powered on the "found new hardware " baloon appears and stays on , also the Found New Hardware Wizard window opens and stays on with message - "There was a problem installing this hardware - Epson Picturemate 100 - an error occured during the installation of this device - the system cannot find the file specified "

What do you mean by Epson software running perfectly ? Is the printer working or not ?

I have seen such problems in the past - 99% from USB printers. It seems that the printer & Windows do not like the particular USB port. It may seem strange but yes it happens.

Can you unplug the printer, uninstall the drivers, reboot the system, reinstall drivers and plug the printer into a different USB port?

    Let's know what happens.

    Go to...

    Start/Settings/Printers & Faxes.

Right-Click on your printer and select Properties.

    Click Ports tab.

If your printer is the only device (no other printers) and its using USB then select the checkbox for the USB port and deselect any others...LPT is normally selected so make sure this is not selected.

If you have another printer and that uses Parellel then leave the LPT checkbox selected and make sure the one you are referring to is selected for the USB checkbox.

But zykan, he can print. Your solution would have been right if he was able to install the drivers and NOT print.
