    hi, i recently have had a weird problem with my lan connection on a particular pc

    when i transfer files (copy or move) out to another pc within the lan, cpu usage goes up big time, but incoming data transfer doesnt seem to cause that high cpu problem; data transfer among HD's within the pc is normal until it's going out of the pc (regardless of which hd is coming out)

    all my pcs ar on win2k pro; this particular pc is a p4 3.2 ghz prescott, mobo is asus p4p800se with onboard gigabit nic from marvel; i have a pretty fast cable connection but i have no issue with internet speed; i'm just trying to figure out what causes the bottleneck that causes cpu usage to max out and make all other tasks temporarily frozen

    i tried upgrading from the etherfast switch to a gigabit switch but no difference; i tried adding a second adapter while the onboard nic is still enabled, no difference; thinking may be it's the nic going south, i bought a netgear gigabit nic and disabled the onboard nic but still the same problem;

    please advise as this is really bugging me; it used to not have this problem before; just started recently

    thanks very much

    This change prevents the browsing computer from checking for scheduled tasks on the remote machine before connecting, which is apparently the reason for the slowness.

    Open the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE)

    Rename the following registry entry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
    \Explorer
    \RemoteComputer
    \Namespace
    \{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

    For example, you can rename it to:

    DISABLED {xxD6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

    hi Steve

    thanks for responding; that's not the cause unfortunately :(

    i checked and i dont have that key at that exact location; also, i use tuneup utilities and there's an option to search network for scheduled tasks; i double checked and that option is not enabled (i think not enabling it has the same function as the trick that you suggested , right?)

    several keys

    Hi - as i was watching this thread I recalled this same problem with my machine and went to apply the patch, but in the Namespace there are 2 keys, one just like the one Steve posted, and another... Should I disable both?
    thanks
