I can download updates from the windows updates site, but they will not install. I have tried everything to correct this problem. From renaming folders to creating a new account. Nothing seems to work. The only thing I can do is get the download to install manually, but I would like it done automatically.

    Thanks for any help

    Hello Gary,

You don't mention any messages, you also don't mention the OS - I'll assume XP. See if anything applies to you here: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/#Problem reaching Windows Update under the Problem Downloading/Installing a Software (Non-Driver) item heading.

I personnally avoid automatic installs and get my updates (the setup files themselves which I then save) from the Windows Update Catalog site accessable thru the Administrator options on the Update site.

    Regards - Charles

Sorry; About the sparse details. OS is XP with SP2. I receive no error messages, the screen just says (updates were unable to be successlly installed) then shows the failed screen.
None of the items on the updates troubleshooting page seem revelant to my problem. I don't use automatic updates, I always fo to the site and download all updates but on the updates page. I will try through windows updates catalog myself.

    Thanks for any help

Thanks Gary for the post back. Would appreciate letting us know whether installing the stand alone update setup files work for you.

    Regards - Charles

Please post the contents of your C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file. You may have to limit it to the last few updates, that file can get quite big.
