After installing SP2 my device manager window is not showing anything, as in a blank window. Here are what messages were in the event viewer and what MS had to say about it. I have no idea what to do with they're explaination of the problem. I've gotten all the after SP2 updates until it shows no more are available. Other than this everything seems fine. IE works good, games run great, nothing but this so far.

Thank you. Well it seems the only way to fix this is to either wait for SP3 or pay money to get a hotfix they have tucked away. How will I know if I'm severly effected by this if I can't see what's going on in my device manager?

    Thanks again for the link.

Sorry I can’t be of further help. I know little about it and was only aware of it because I’ve seen the same problem come up on the forums before. It’s been around a while now so I would be surprised if there was not a work around for it somewhere out there. Perhaps someone else might come along that can point you to a fix.

The way I read it is that they have a hotfix and If you really need it then you'll have to call MS support and I know that it is $35 just to talk to a tech there. There is no link in the article to download the fix.

Thanks for the link in th other article. I'm going to try that and see if it works. I'll get back here to post the results.

After looking at the article I noticed it was dated '02 but when ahead and checked it out. My plugin-play was already set to the recommended automatic so no go there.

Whats frustrating about this is I put off SP2 for so long so they could get the bugs worked out as much as they could and even after all the people reported this problem it still exsists.

The following is a quote from the page McTavish linked to.
Though I can't tell you for certain, my guess is that this would probably be one of those times.

    Hi,
I did some extensive research on your computer problem and the only solution that I was able to find that appears to have solved the problem is called the "AproposFix.exe "...

Numerous people have this very same problem while many others do not and Microsoft has been unable to provide a fix...From the research I have done which even included some into believing that the Microsoft Update KB905749 was the culprit, seems to be spyware related and the AproposFix was the answer...Keep us posted.

Go to Kelly's Korner, scroll down to line 107 and in the right-hand column, click on "Restore Device Manager," to download a small .reg file.

Once downloaded, run it according to the directions at the top of the Kelly's Korner page. See if that fixes things (and for free, too!).

    Hi,
Can you go into safe mode and see if everything shows up in Device Manager...If it does I am not sure that Kelly's Korner will be the step to proceed with at this time...After you come out of safe mode, and the device manager is still not showing what I do believe you will see in safe mode, then a fix is needed not another downloaded version...That's what I would because if it's definetely spyware that's the cause, you are now going to have a problem on top of a problem and I firmly beleive in removing the creator before moving on...Your call...Keep us posted.

I've seen the Device Manager go blank if the Plug and Play service (not UPNP) is turned off.
