When I start XP up a tool bar appears on the right hand side next to my office tool bar, it has large icons which are labeled gambling, dating, pharmacy, xxx and insurance and if you put the mouse over any of these icons a bar appears saying loading and then you get a box with links to variouse web sites. I can,t get rid of it. Any help please.

PAUL SHILLAM--Sounds like you have some spyware.
    You might try this procedure
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=37074
There are some other ideas that might get rid of the toolbar, but probably will not eliminate the spyware that causes it. So it probably is a good idea to go through the above.

Scans did not get rid of it

I have run all the scans you suggested but the unwanted tool bar is still there.
Spybot normally runs in about ten minutes but since the tool bar has appeared it is taking about 3 hours.

The last part of the thread Welshjim pointed you to tells how to post a hijackthis log in the spyware forum. If you haven't, that whould be your next step.

Im having the same issue and was able to get rid of most of the things that came along with this desktop bar. No redirects anymore to abcsearch, but the issue that remains for me is that in IE, right click and then "open in new window" stopped working. The link will always open in the same window.

This is pretty nasty and I still struggle to get rid of it. I will keep an eye on this thread and hope we hear some new advise from people that where able to fix the issue entirely.

    Hello Chris,

Go into the IE tool bar > Manage Add-ons. One of the BHO's listed is probably the culprit, if you can't spot it, you should be able to either identitfy it by googling for what's runnig or by disabling the BHO's one at a time.

    Regards - Charles

peroxyd--I think charlesvar's suggestion is for the case when you have not removed all the malware from your PC.
Did you go through the procedure here
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=37074 ?

If you have, you could also try
    1) IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab. Uncheck the box "Reuse Windows for launching shortcuts" (if it is checked)|Apply|OK
or if that does not work
    2) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q281679&

P.S. In the future it would be best to start your own thread when you have a problem. And let us know the version of Windows and IE you use.
