I've been using AVG Free for several years. I had to reload WinXP+SP2 and therefore reinstall AVG. Instead of using an older download I went to Grisssoft and downloaded the latest AVG. When I go for my email, the small AVG box shows it working but never allows the email to load. When I Uninstalled AVG, the email came in fine.

    Hi tenbob

Have you tried a thorough registry cleaning after removing AVG?
Please backup registry prior to cleaning. Also reboot computer before reinstalling AVG. Also what email client are you using?
    Good luck.

I tried two registry cleaners but found that they were trial downloads that quick after fixing 20 items. Which one would you recommend?

I have been using AVG with Thunderbird. I have the same problem with the latest OE.

I did re-install AVG. I know the problem is not AVG since I have been using it for so long.

    RegSeeker 1.45
I would suggest doing searches / registry cleaning on key words AVG and Grisoft. Before deleting records with Regseeker, look on the lower left of the screen. You should see a phrase "Backup before deletion ". Be sure this phrase is "ticked ".

What firewall do you have installed?
If you are using a firewall, look in area of program that displays program permissions. Delete ALL entries for AVG and Grisoft.

I removed all AVG and Grisoft references in the registry.

    Rebooted and re-installed AVG

Checked Zonealarm and both references to AVG were marked ALLOW.

I could not access my mail until I stopped AVG !!! :(

you might need to go into the account settings for your email client and create an account for your AVG mail guard. you should check the help files in that program or contact Grissoft for the proper configuration.
I know this to be true for OE especially.

Remove entries in ZA, (do NOT have AVG loaded, may have to kill some process from Tasklist to get them all). Now reload AVG, ZA should issue a new request for approval. ZA is a excellent firewall. But one of the reasons I do NOT use it ... it sometimes hangs on to old settings. Can be a real pain. If you have no luck on this go around, hopefully a ZA user will offer some suggestions.
