OK, finally got the go ahead to get a bigger monitor (eyes are going bye-bye).

Question - is a contrast ratio of 1000 to 1 better than 500 to 1?

Here is what i'm looking at now (what i get may be different tho).

    # Sony SDM-P234/B 23" LCD Monitor
    # Type:TFT Active Matrix
    # Surface:Anti-Reflective
    # Display Area: Diagonal: 23"
    # Pixel Pitch:0.258 mm
    # Resolution:1920 x 1200
    # Brightness:250 cd/m2
    # Contrast Ratio:500:1
    # Horizontal/Vertical Viewing Angle:176º
    # Response Time:16 ms
    # Input Video Signal:Analog: RGB, Digital: DVI
    # Frequency Horizontal: 28-92kHz, Vertical: 48-85Hz
    # Input Connectors:2 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15), 1 x DVI-D - 24 pin
    digital DVI
    # Included Signal Cable: DVI-D Video Signal Cable, HD15 Video Signal Cable
    # Warranty:3 year warranty includes parts and labor.
    # Price: $1,346.99

    DELL UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" LCD Monitor (24 ", 1920x1200, 12ms, DVI, PC)
    # Aspect Ratio: 16:10
    # Resolution:1920 x 1200
    # Response Time:12 ms
    # Color Depth: 16.7 Million Colors (24-bit)
    # Contrast Ratio:1000:1
    # Brightness:500 cd/m2
    # Horizontal/Vertical Viewing Angle:178 degrees
    # Interface Type: USB - Universal Serial Bus, Video - 15 pin High-Density
    D-shell (VGA),
    # Video - 24 pin DVI-D, Video - 4 pin mini-DIN (S-Video), Video - RCA
    Composite Video
    # Interface: Analog, Digital
    # Included Devices: Monitor Stand, Power Supply, USB Hub
    # Price Range: $935.00 - $1,019.15

I'm kinda looking at the DELL because of price, response time, USB and the
contrast ratio altho, i like the warranty from Sony.

    All opinions appreciated,
    savagcl

    yes, way way better!
plus the dell has a better response time, meaning graphics get rendered faster with less lags.

According to the link (below) my system must be able to support "WUXGA "
(Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array) in 1920x1200 resolution. Is there a way to
    determine this?
I'm running an nVidia GeForce 6600GT (overclocked by builder) with 128MegMem.
I dont think the resolution is a problem but not sure about the WUXGA....

Not a bad writeup on the dell 24" monitor. The 4 USB ports and cardreaders
    is a good addition also.

    Thanks for the assist,

    To optimize this monitor's performance,
your system must be able to support WUXGA resolution (1920x1200).

    WUXGA
If I understand the definition correctly, if your "video adapter" can display 1920x1200 resolution, you have WUXGA resolution capability.

Present monitor will do 1920x1200 but i have to scroll vertically to see the
complete window, horizonal is OK. Anything over 1024 causes a scroll.

I see where Dell has just dropped the price of their 24" monitor by 200.00 bucks.
Must mean they have a new one in the wings and it will be released soon.
At a much greater price I'll bet.

I think 899.00 seems a lot easier to swallow than 1199.00 even if its not the
newest on the block, it should be bug free by now.

Not necessisarily a new one on the way, but rather it's just Dell's marketing strategy, which they've done regularly for years. They take a decent product, slap their name on it and sell it way less than the competition in high volume.

I bought the Dell UltraSharp 2001FP Flat Panel with Height Adjustable Stand about a month ago and I am very happy with it.
It even has Picture in picture built in to receive a Composite video source.

It was 599.00 Plus 42.00 shipping and 64.00 tax.

Connected to a Radeon 9500 Via DVI cable.
