I have been using this board for a while, but apprently had to register again.
My problem is that my system crashed and upon getting it up and running again, my e-mail program - Outlook Express 5 - does not work. I have searched the board for a solution without results. When I open the program I get the message as follows:
    **************************

This program has perfrormed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in
    module MSOE.DLL at 0177:5f1ae84e.

I am running Windows 98, Internet Explorer 5.5 and have re-installed both programs. Everything else works as it did before.
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thanks for the fast reply Arie. I tried the link you advised without results, but followed another link on the same page with the following advice:

OLEXP: Error Message If the Folders.dbx File Is Missing or Damaged (Q233264)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Outlook Express version 5 , for Windows 95
Microsoft Outlook Express version 5 , for Windows 98

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For information about differences between Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook e-mail clients, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q257824 OL2000: Differences Between Outlook and Outlook Express

    SYMPTOMS
When you start Outlook Express or attempt to send an e-mail message, you may receive one of the following error messages:

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Msoe.dll

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module "unknown"

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Directdb.dll

Msimn caused an exception C0000006h in module Directdb.dll

Outlook Express: The message could not be sent. There is not enough Disk space.

Unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP Port: 0 Secure: No [SSL] Error: 0x800c0131

    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Folders.dbx file is missing, damaged, or using the read-only attribute.

    RESOLUTION
    Rename the Folders.dbx file:

Click Start , point to Find , and then click Files or Folders .

In the Named box, type folders.dbx .

In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and then click Find Now .

Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename .

Type folders.old , and then click OK .

Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file automatically.

This solved the problem and the mail program now works. However, I had some important folders on the old system and they have now dissappeared. I can only hope they are still on the computer somewhere. I haven't had time to look for them yet.
Thanks again for the help. That's why I really like this board. Keep up the good work.

    Outlook Express address books

I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Win 95v and the Win98 SE upgrade. (Klez problems) Before doing that , I copied all my files to my secondary "D" drive as a backup, as recommended by my sys admin at work. I had been using OE from WIn95, I think, and all the addresses and contacts were in folders with a default .pab (persoanl address book) extension. Now that I have OE 5, that extension is not recognized. How can I import my old messages and address book? The funny thing is, I was able to install old addresses from 98 that I thought were long gone after my last reformatting!!!

Dug this old thread up from under the stacks of "search" and just wanted to add that the rename "folders.dbx(old)" fixed up my buggered Outlook Express quite nicely. It's easy when you know how :D .
