Wordpad is running slowww.....

All of a sudden word pad is running very slow on my laptop, never had a problem with it before. When I open a text document it opens quickly as before, but then the whole document freezes, the cursor stops blinking, I cant click on or do anything with the page until it finds itself. I have to wait anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes for it to unfreeze. After that it works just fine unless I open any kind of print option, preview, page setup, or just print...then it takes even longer than when I first open it to unfreeze. As I am typing this I am waiting for the pre-print options to pop up. Only wordpad seems to do this, notepad doesn't, neither does paint. I dont have word intalled on my laptop or else I would see if it also freezes. I have a 1.8ghz pentium M processor and 1gb of ddr400 ram, I would say that should be more than sufficient to open a text document! Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks!
