I am wanting to replace my current primary drive(C) with a new faster drive. So far I have not been able to do that. Both drives are WD drives and I have used their Data Lifeguard ez-install and it seems to work fine. I use the copy entire disk option, but if I just have it mounted it will not bootup the system. and if I mount the original drive along with it then it defaults to the original drive.
I have also tried Paragon Drive Backup with no success.
I am opent to any ideas or suggestions. Jack

If you want to migrate your data from one hard drive to another, you are probably going to want to use Norton Ghost, or another drive copy program. However, I would recommend installing XP on the new hard drive, and use the user migration wizard to migrate your settings. Then just move your data.

I was able to use MS Backup Utility which I was able to install from off the Windows XP CD. I had to check backing up the System State besides All Info on the computer. It seems to be working just fine. I do appreciate your answering my question. Jack

If you don't have an install disk (have an oem system) then I recommend Instant Recovery. It's good stuff and works on any system.

Careful with Ghost. When I cloned one hard drive to another in Dos it changed the drive letters so that C became G. It would not let me change this back. ( I normally have one drive only plugged in and the other is a back up. they are only plugged in together when I am using Ghost in Dos ). The setup was fine with Ghost 2001 and ME. But not Ghost 2002 and XP. I have bought Drive image to copy stuff.
