    I`m recieving some, not all , emails that don`t make any sense to me, all from the same same individual. I`m using OE6, XPHome S2. He doesn`t clean his messages up well but here`s a partial of what I read when I open one. In notepad,

    Content-Description: Where Did They Bury the Rest of Him.jpg
    Content-Type: image/pjpeg; name= "Where Did They Bury the Rest of Him.jpg "
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: inline; filename= "Where Did They Bury the Rest of Him.jpg "

    This above stuff goes on and on.
    Sorry to clutter like this but I don`t know If I`m doing something I shouldn`t or what. I`ve tried saving as text document, and all files, asked Irfanview to open it, all to no avail.
    Thanks, if you`ve got any ideas.

    Hi Dick

    What you are seeing is the code for the jpg. It may corrupted or in the wrong form - maybe Jpeg 2000. I doubt the problem is with you - most likely with your friend.

    Are these jpegs embedded in the message or sent as an attachment?

    They`re embedded in the message.He`s running windows `98, I`ll contact him and see how he`s going about sending them.
    Thanks a lot for the reply.

    Moore--Could be spam.
    Perhaps the PC of the individual from whom you are getting the messages has been infected with a virus which is sending out messages without the individual knowing.
    It will be informative to learn if the individual is aware of sending these messages and if he is aware, how what you see compares to what is being sent.

    I just sent him an email and returned the last message I couldn`t open, to him, to see if it looked the same on his end as it does here. I may be mistaken but in the past I think all the messages he`s sent with text only, were OK. If that means anything!. I`ll post back when I hear from him.

    Got a reply back from my emalin` buddy. He sent the same story again . Same results,just the JPEG code, no cartoon,or whatever. He said another recipient had sent him the same complaint.
    This could get serious, I`d hate to miss something important!:eek:

    I`ll let you know when he posts back. I sent him another note. I suppose he`s inserting it, there`s no indication it has an attachnent.

    I wonder if this isn't a problem due to your friends email provider. I've never tried to run it down but I get these once in a while from people who are using web mail for their email. Excite mail is one that comes to mind. It seems to be emails that are forwarded that give trouble for me. Could be the way Excite handles the attachments or forwards or it could be the way the user forwards or attaches the file. I don't mess with them, just delete them and move on. Another possibility would be AOL. I get the same junk from people using AOL. I don't know why it happens but whatever causes it, I know it's on their end, not mine.

    I checked this out myself using an old Excite account I have. I emailed a picture to it and then forwarded it back to my ISP account. When I forwarded it I noticed there was a box where you can select to forward it as an attachment or in-line text. I tried both. The one forwarded as an attachment (the default in Excite mail) ended up arriving like the ones you're receiving. Just code. The one that I forwarded as in-line text arrived as it should. Text and picture in tact the way they were originally sent. Perhaps your friend has an option something like this?

    I`ll bet you`re right, I haven`t heard back from him yet. I`m no expert but I hope I get the oppurtunity to explain to him how to get rid of all the FWD`s he seems to have on a lot of his mail. I don`t think he`s lazy, I doubt if he knows how.

    Got another message, this time with an attachment.:)
    It didn`t produce any picture either.
    I wish now I`d just deleted it and went on. Like Zander says, that`s what I usually do.
    In the text of the message I see the below.

    I don`t remember ever seeing pjpeg before. Not too surprising, I`m not too observant. I just wondered if that was a clue to what`s going on.
    I told him to copy the picture to a CD and send it to me snail mail,if it was really buggimg him.

    I think you have hit the nail on the head ....

    I sent myself a jpeg and this is part of the text before the code which represents the image ....

    Content-Type: image/jpeg;
    name= "Appearance.jpg "
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename= "Appearance.jpg "

    I think your friend has saved the image as a 'progressive' jpeg instead of a 'baseline standard' jpeg.

    PeteC--OK. I give up. :)
    Where do you get that JPEG Options window?
    I see something similar in Irfanview, but no such options in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, Paint, IE or anywhere else on WinXP.

    Jim

    That is the jpeg options dialogue box in Photoshop CS2 - I used it only to illustrate the various common forms of jpeg. Progressive is sometimes used on websites, AFAIK
