    Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me why i am having problems with two pc's on my network, they connect to the internet through mine and i use a hub, they can both get on to things like mssenger but not explorer, it keeps coming up cant find this page. The icon notification for both the local area network and broadband connection are in the system tray so they are connected,
    Thanks

    Hi Tony
Yeah i thought about that but i cant see anything wrong with them, like i said i can get on to msn messenger and yahoo messenger but the eplorer has problems, sometime it might let you on but mostly not, could it be problems with the hub itself, i have no problems at all with the main pc that connects to the net, this one is working just fine but the others run off a hub connected with rj45 cables

I do not understand what through mine means. I have three PCs and none of them depend on the other for anything.

But what can be done may well depend on what type of Internet connection you have. I have Cable.

    My connections go from;

Each machine has its own NIC card. Connections go from Machines and Printer to a Switch. Switch goes to the Router. Then the Router to the Cable Modem.

The only reason the Switch in in the line is because I ran out of room on the Router When I wanted to add a 2nd Networkable Printer. Other wise the Router would be fine.

OOPS !! By reading AGAIN I see you have Broadband. Which is what I have also. So you should be able to connect each PC by itself. I think all you need would be the Router.

As to the icons in the System tray. I have never seen any there. But by you seing them it may depend on how the Network is set up.

It could still be a firewall issue since the IP port that http uses (normal browser stuff) is completely different from the half-dozen that MSN Messenger can use.

That being said, I'll completely agree with earlier suggestions that you buy a router/switch and quit using ICS. With a total of 3 PCs, if you get a 4 port switch with the router (a common setup) you can put the hub in a closet and speed up everyone.

It will probably be the best $30-$40 you have spent in a long while.

I managed to find the router that someone gave me a while ago but cant get it to work, at first i just tried it on mine but even i couldnt get connected, My broadband goes through an external usb modem and i cant figure out how to include this in the set up,
My broadband modem is a sagam fast 800 and the router is a mentor adsl router mr4c/uk if that means anything
as for the kids dad being happier lol, think i will send the kids to his place and see how much fun they all have on his dial up connection.

Unless your router has a special port to connect to USB (most do not) you will need a modem that uses ethernet/RJ-45.

Note that as far as I know, while you can get ethernet<->RJ-45 adapters, none will work for connecting a USB modem to an ethernet-ported router.

    Hi
The router has on the back the connection to the phone line, usb, 4x rj45 ports and then the power supply, I just cant figure out how to connect my tiscali modem to it, The modem connects to the phone line and then the pc with a usb connection. I presume i need to always go through the tiscali sagem modem and not straight through the router into the phone line?
    Thanks
