Hi, I am new to the BB this is my first posting.
I have a problem starting a prog. Acad 2000 which worked before under W98 up until about 2wks ago, all I get now when I try to run the prog. is:
Error starting program the ADUI15.DLL file is linked to missing export:MFC42.DLL:6605.
I have rebuilt my Registry using Scanreg /fix which was successful, the file ADUI15 is in the Autocad dir.
the file MFC42.DLL is in the Windows dir. where it is supposed to be, I do not know what else to do and I really need to use this program, has anyone else had this experience or has any idea what is going on and what I should do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

when you say "in the Windows dir. where it is supposed to be ": as in c:\windows or other? ...a check of my Win98SE 4.10.2222A machine lists that dll in c:\windows\system...is it possible you have recently un-installed a program which removed it from that directory? (I list 2 instances of mfc42.dll...one in the system directory, which is a newer version, and one in the Creative Player 2 folder. I'm guessing the one in the system directory is the shared version).

I Had the same problem and my whole COMPUTER OS wouldn't start because of it! That lack of the MCF.42 file kept it from booting. Even though it could be found in safe mode in Windows Explorer from a boot with the floppy. Try going to accessories and tools and system file checker to see if it is corrupted and can be repaired, or reinstall the registry from a few days earlier, when it was working. Unfotunatley, I ended up having to format my hard drive...sigh.):(

At the Autodesk homepage I clicked on the Knowledge Base link, typed in ADUI15.DLL "missing export" MFC42.DLL and came up with an article on "ADUI15.DLL is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL Error when starting AutoCAD "

    ID: TS48224
    Applies to: AutoCAD® 2000
    Published Date: 03/08/2000

I did notice a slight error in the instructions (you need to type CD C:\Windows\System at the dos prompt) so I also did a groups.google search and came up with:
Since you say the program was working fine until a few weeks ago, it is possible that another program installation removed the version of the file that you need and replaced it with an older version.

It is also possible that you have other versions of MFC42.dll in other locations so if that's the case, you can try this first:

Use Start - Find and enter MFC42.DLL in the dialog box.

Right click on the file icon for each copy oif MFC42.dll, select Properties and go to the version tab. Make note of the file version number and the location (full path) of each copy.

The newest (highest version number) should be the copy in your
c:\windows\system folder. If not, copy the newest version to that folder. Then rename all of the older versions of the file to MFC42.OLD or similar so they will not get loaded.

Hello, and thanks to all who replied.
After reading your replies I searched for all copies of mfc42 and found three, in: c\win\sys, \tometa\backup and \quickcamvc on my system. I used properties on each, I had tried before copying mfc42 from c\win\sys to my Acad dir, but it did not work, I removed this copy from my Acad dir and copied the one from \tometa\backup, this software Tometa COOLINFO 2001 I had installed about 2mo ago and from properties the only thing that was common was the created date between the two:
MFC42.DLL modified fri dec 13/96 created wed apr 4/01 'c\win\sys'
MFC42.DLL modified fri apr 23/99 created wed apr 4/01 'tometa\bk'.
After copying this to my Acad dir the program ran fine (also wordpad.exe was affected and copied one to it's dir) both prog's work fine, I have saved/opened and shutdown my sys. and they are ok, I am not sure why this works except as you suggest, this must be the latest, but I have not removed mfc42 from c\win\sys.
This was my first time asking for help (prob not the last heh, heh)
Everyone was great and I thank you very much for your help, and I will definetly return the favour if, when, I learn something tips, tricks ect to help someone else.
Regards to all, and much appreciated. Live long and Prosper.

    Hi Deacontide

I'm glad you were able to fix the problem by copying the latest version of mfc42.dll from your tometa\backup folder to your Acad folder - apparently your system was using the OLD 1996 version of the file.

By the way, you can't go by the "Created" date on the file's properties screen, as you found out! Your best bet is to use the highest version number from the version tab! The Modified date is the next best clue.

Since it appears that you have a really old version of mfc42.dll in C:\Windows\System, you might want to consider replacing it with a copy of the new version you just copied to your ACAD folder down the road, but that's just something to keep in mind. Possibly installing some new software or Windows update in the future might take care of that for you.

    MFC42

Installing HP printer drivers is a common cause of kaos - wiping out a functional version of MFC42.dll
