I have 3 identities and suddenly one of them lost all the properties. I noticed that the send/receive button on the menu was dimmed and when I checked accounts, it was missing. I could switch to the others and they were OK. The name was still in the box so I deleted the name and went through the process of adding it again. It worked fine BUT, now I lost all messages. The address book is still OK. Is there some way to recover the messages, particularly the drafts list I have.

I added a new program today, Spy Sweeper, and everthing was OK after I added it. This problem happened several hours later. So maybe it had something to do with it.

Deleting the name might have been the nail in the coffin. But the mail files are located here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities

The original .dbx files might still be there for you to import into the new identity.

Thanks Steve. I found the store folder in tools- options-maintenance with my outlook express on the identity where messages were lost but when I go to import I don't know how to get the path to go in the browse box.
Here is the path from store folder. I tried to find this path from explore but could not.

    C:\Documents and Settings\ron dombcik\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{57656A80-17B1-432E-BA26-45BA0D1CD69F}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Well, I went to the store directory and copied the path and made a new folder onthe C: drive and imported from that folder. All I got were duplicates of todays mail. Does that mean there are no messages from the past?

sorry to be such a pain but I did a search and found the .dbx files marked recycle bin. Before I do anything more stupid, I thought I better check on how to handle this.

Do you have more than three identity folders? If not, then the old mail is probably gone with the wind.

As I mentioned, deleting the broken identity wasn't a good idea...
