I am using Win Xp Pro on 3 Pc's on a home network they all worked fine until I had to re-install xp on my main PC.
Now my main PC refuses access from only one of my pc's the other one can access it ok.
I have read through loads of posts on here and tried all the file sharing tips that have been posted, I have tried simple file share enabled and disabled, I checked file access but it still will not let me connect with this one pc.

I can connect ok from my main pc to all the other pc's

I am set to admin on all pc's and guest account is on.

I get the error message saying to contact the administrator for access....

Can anybody suggest what I try next or if I have missed something.

All three Pc's are running Xp Pro
    Connected through a Linksys Router

    Flack..

Try setting up a new account on main and on the problem PC. Identical spelling and identical non-blank password.

Log on to the problem PC with that account and see if you then have access to the main PC.

May or may not fix things but will be diagnostic in either case.

Tried that but still no connection any more ideas please.

    Update

Although I could connect ok with the 3rd pc it asked me for a password at the time I tried to access the network, I put the new pass in and that works fine, but the main still refuses access, maybe if I get this pc to accept a password when I try to log on to the network it might do the trick, but how do I get it to do that.

LOL - I played around a little this morning at home on a network that is nearly identical to yours and after I had to reload the OS on one PC. I have the same problem and the first few things I tried didn't help.

I will work on this and post back with what finally cures my issues since I'm betting the same will work for you. Can't do anything now since the domain at work behaves quite differently.

Oddly enough, while I cannot connect to work with file/folder shares, the shared printers are available. Interesting.

I know it. Do I ever know it. :D

From the looks of things it will be the weekend before I have a decent block of time to work on a fix.

If anyone else has ideas, please jump right in. If not, I'll post to this issue again in a few days.

After trying all week end I finally got it to work in a strange way.
I created a new account again with the same names on both pc's and again this did not work.
I then logged back in on the old log in and noticed that the new account showed up in the workgroup computers tab I then clicked on this from the pc that would not connect and got the same "access Denied" error.

The old PC name was still listed in the same window ( Workgroup computers ) that I got the access denied error from but when I clicked on this low and behold it all works. HOW?.

This has got me totally confused as it would not work before and all I have done is create a new account with same details as the problem pc and this would not let me access this pc. Then all I did was to log back on with old details and it now works

    any ideas ?

    Flack.
