MS Virtual PC

Hi All,

Is anyone familiar with MS Virtual PC?.....Is that different from a dual boot system?

 

Very different.

Virtual PC is a specialized application that is able to run PC operating systems within the app.

If you have enough memory and have licensed versions, you can start up several OS sessions and within a session, treat it like the PC was booted into it.

Running Virtual PC takes at least 512MB of RAM, in addition to the RAM required for your other operating system.

 

Thanks, Arie--I now see that what I said was not correct, and your comment jogged my memory about my experience with Virtual PC.
My intent in using Virtual PC was to install the Windows Vista beta on a system with 1GB RAM and already running Win XP. Using Virtual PC I would have to allocate 512MB to Virtual PC to run Vista. I did not feel comfortable shorting my existing installation of WinXP, which, which based on what I have read, requires 512MB of RAM to really function properly. So I did not do that.
In summary, my last post should have said to be aware of the requirements of what you want to run on Virtual PC and how that will affect what you now run (Operating System, etc). And perhaps add some leeway.
P.S. Your post seems to be missing the link to the informational table you mention for that determination.
But it also should be considered that MS has been known to underestimate the RAM required to satisfactorily run some of its other products, like WinXP, for example.
