Hi MrWilson and welcome to the board. :)

When you right click on a reg file is merge in the menu? If so, does it work when you click on it? If the word merge in the right click menu is there, is it in bold type or is one of the other entries bolded? And last but not least, what does happen when you double click on a reg file?

No, No and the reg file comes up in notepad.:D

"Open" and "edit" are the context menu items.

Try this. Open any folder or explorer window and click tools>folder options>file types. Scroll through the list and find the "REG" file type. Click on it to highlight it and then click the advanced button. In the window that opens click the "new" button. Then, where it says action type Mer&ge (no, the & isn't a typo, type it that way). Where it says "application used to perform action" type or copy and paste the following line in.
    Code:
    regedit.exe "%1 "
Then check the box that says Use DDE and beneath that where it says application type regedit and where it says topic, type system. Click the ok button and when that window closes you should have an entry that says merge in the box under actions. Click on it to highlight it and then click on the set default button. Click ok, then apply. Close the file types applet and try double clicking a reg file. Also, you should now be able to right click on a reg file and the word merge should be there in bold type. Let us know if this works for you or not.
