DOS program [Unable to delete accounts in Sparky 2000]

A friend has a program called Sparky 2000 that runs in DOS.It is for his business.He needs to empty out the unused accounts to free up space in the program.He is limited to how many accounts he can have.He has tried to delete them ,but they just come back as soon as he types the name back in .He really cannot delete anything.Anyone have any ideas?

 

Sorry yellowcat but it looks like no one on here is familiar with the program and a few may have run into the same issue I did - no mentions of the app in any search engine runs I tried.

I know that moving away from software that does what you need just because it has gotten old isn't pleasant but I'm guessing that your friend needs to look at doing just that. Something newer where they will be company support and forum support would make life lots easier and if the application is business-essential, is probably worth the pain and expense.

I have not had time to reply, but I have been thinking about the problem.

I take it that Windows is loaded on the computer. Use the Windows Find/Search to look for files that have the name of the Accounts and delete them.
The other way they may be listed is in a type of "log" file. Use the the Windows search program to search within files (containing text) for the account names. you may be able to use a text editor (even notepad) to delete the entries or it may lead you to where the data is stored and edit/delete those.

The other thing I think of is that the files have attributes of "read only ", that is why they cannot be deleted. Look in Windows Help menu for how to change attributes.

Sparky 2000

He has managed to download The DOS program to a computer running Windows XP by creating a Fat32 partation.He didn't want to try to do to many different things without having some kind of backup.If we messed up the only copy he really be up a creek.In the next week we will try some of your suggestions plus some others.I will post back and let you know what happens.

 

I am not much more than a DOS novice, I can get around.

You are right, it is a very good idea to use a "test system "...although Win XP uses a "virtual DOS ".

If you don't have any success, try using a websearch for "DOS forums" or "Dos newsgroups ".
