I have an end user will full access to every network drive. when he tries to path to a folder using the run command or in the address field of explorer it does not take him to the network folder, an returns this error:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
All of his file associations are correct. The end user is an application developer, I have reasopn to suspect that he may have made changes to the registry for one reason or another. any help on what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I'd try is from a run line, sfc /scannow. At least if the SP level is 3 or higher I'd try that.

Is the problem restricted to a single user or is every user on a specific PC affected?

    Domain or workgroup network?

    cannot unc

pc/user is part of domain, it has the same effet on all users that log into the pc. including the local admin acct...
the user has a login script that automaticly maps drives...
whe you go to my computer it lists the drived but has the red x to show them as being disconnected, but you CAN click these drives and get to files within them, also I found that he can UNC to paths on drives that are allready maped even though it shows the drives as being disconnected.. also you cannot disconnect the network drives as it thinks they are disconnected..

    thanks for the help

Since the problem follows the PC, you certainly have to suspect the PC. If SFC didn't find any problems, from a cmd prompt key in
chkdsk /r and Enter. When you get the message asking about doing the chkdsk at next boot, answer Yes and reboot.

If the problem persists, the easy thing to try next would be a scrub and reload from the beginnging but if that will be a problem, make sure you are set to generate dump files when it blue screens and not to automatically reboot then see what information shows up.

You could have hardware going bad on you but no way to tell without more information.
