Norton Antivirus 2006 on XP home

Hi, I have a new system here which came with Norton Antivirus 2006. Is there a safe way to "totally" remove it from hard drive & registry? I just have never been a big fan of norton.

Amd 1.6htz
xp home
1 gig ram
