    Christer Great picture!!

Must be incredibly beautiful up there with the silence and the wind.

In my 'Youth" I used to do free fall parachute jumping - only did that for awhile though. Met my wife to be, and that was the end of it.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Christer,

Ok, went thru the whole thing again.

gcasServ.exe is the real time agent that wants to insert itself into the startups at every upgrade.

Have to laugh, we've generated another looong thread about this program.

    Regards - Charles

    Charles,

I have not understood why someone would evacuate a fully functioning aircraft ...... ...... !

That's the sad truth in many cases. I don't mean "sad to meet a lovely woman" but sad that it, in most cases, equals an end to life as it was. So many friends who have quit gliding, come to visit, indicating that the would like to start again but can't. I wonder what "can't" means in this context but I'm still single ...... ...... and I still can.

I will find the old thread and reread it. Some topics seem to pop up from time to time and the fact that we are still discussing indicates to me that we still haven't come to a satisfactory conclusion.

First off we have about 2 inches of SNOW here and it is still falling.

    Next.
    My experience with MSAS.
That is also the file that I would check AS DISABLE ( do not load a startup )in Startup Cop. That was useless. It would put itself rgiht back as Enabled.

I also could not remove that and one other associiated file from Startup Cop untill I did the registry cleaning that I wrote about in an early reply. Since I did the reg cleaning there are 3 ( three ) files gone from the startup group. It is down from 13 items to 10 items.

    Hi Christer,

but sad that it, in most cases, equals an end to life as it was.
My wife and I talked about this last night. She perceived "evacuating a fully functioning aircraft" as dangerous and wasn't going to spend time worrying about it. And its not something I would have kept up, its physically strenuous and really does belong to a younger phase of life.

Some topics seem to pop up from time to time and the fact that we are still discussing indicates to me that we still haven't come to a satisfactory conclusion.
This program seems to react differently to various system for some users. I have installed it as resident on other systems and seems to run well for those folks. I'm satisfied using it as scanner. It never finds anything though.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Lenny,

I try Updating but the expiry still says "over at the end of the year" only days away now.
There is a new build - that started this thread which extends the date to 07/31/06.

At some point prior to 12/31/05, MA AS should update itself to that new version. MS does this as a gradual roll out in order not to swamp servers.

I assume you run MA AS in the background. I downloaded it manually because I use it as a on demand scanner only and have none of the auto update features turned on.

Since I was getting no "Update available" message from MSAS, I went ahead and used the download in charlesvar's first post above. I now have the new 1.0.701 version which expires on 7/31/2006. But the definitions continue to be #5779 dated Nov. 20.

You have the latest defs - #5779, although mine are dated 22 Nov, which I guess is the download date as this is on my laptop which is not 'always on' while I am away from home - like now.

I'll confirm that the date of the definitions is the download date.

I restored a drive image prior to the MS AS .701 version. When installing/updating it again, the date became that date.

    Ms As

    Thanks Charles,

I also do not use or like any of the Auto up-date options. I do allow them to inform me that up-dates are available, so I can decide when to install them.

In this case do you think that, maybe, I might turn on MS AS auto up-date just to be sure that I do get it? Or do you feel that it will up-date to the latest version { on or before Dec. 31 2005 }even though I usually up-date manually? Lenny

OH!! by the way Hi Welshjim

Hi, loonychoons--Good to see you back after what I know has been a rough time.
I have MSAS AutoUpdater set to seek and install new versions and definitions in MSAS and it does a good job on the definitions but not always on the new versions. So like I said above, after waiting several days after I heard about the new version, I manually downloaded and installed it from the link charlesvar provided.
For Windows Update, on the other hand, I do not have it set to install automatically but just to notify me.

    Ho Lenny,

I think its just fine to manually look for updates the way you've been doing - sooner or later, you'll get the new software version. And if not, or don't want to wait, you know where to get the .701 version per my link from my first post.

For everyone's FYI: to look for updates - left upper corner of main panel > File > Check for updates.

    Regards - Charles

I went to HelpWithWindows and had a look at Microsoft Releases Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) and the "update from 11/23/05" and I quote:

My 1.0.615 is speaking english and I am not aware of any localized versions. Have I missed something or is 1.0.701 different in this respect?

In the "System Summary" window > Message Center > it says "Please contact Microsoft for an updated version ".

Will there be a release that works on all language versions or ...... ...... will "foreigners" be discriminated against ...... :p ...... ?

    Expires July 31 2006

    Thanks Guys!!!

As suggested I have downloaded and installed the latest MS AS version. My definitions are up to date and my expiry date is now July 31 2006. I think though that I will still continue to manually check for updates. Lenny Chowns loonychoons

I started MSAS to let it run in the background. After a few minutes, I was very surprized when I was offered the new version. (See the quoted Note in my previous post about "english OS versions only ".)

Version 1.0.701 downloaded and installed without a problem and definitions were updated to version 5779.

I have not yet edited the registry to remove gcasServ.exe from the RUN section. I will let MSAS have its way for a while ...... :p ...... since they let me have it.

    Jim,

Yes, of course! I took notes before letting it update itself and 5765 was the previous version I had.

By that, it becomes clear that I don't use MSAS very often.

    Hello Rusty,

I asume you mean when using MS AS realtime. Depends on what you mean by a Lot of resources.

For the record, I use MS AS as a on demand scanner only. Have installed it on systems with the full protections enbaled, and have had no complaints.

For most, it runs well, there are systems where MS AS does use up CPU and this is a known problem.

Try it, but my advice woud be not to use any other realtime anti-malware app such as Spybot (immunization) or the full Ewido suite.

    Regards - Charles
