Typed URLs won't load, links will

I've never seen or heard of this problem before, but it has just started happening to me. I'm using IE6 on Win XP Home. If I click a link or choose a URL from history I have no problem accessing the page. If I type in a URL in the address bar and hit enter or click Go it just sits there and won't do anything. There have been several times I've sent myself an email with a link in it so I could get to a website. In fact, had to do that to get here, Any ideas?
