    Hi,

For some reason I am not receiving sound from my computer. It was fine and then all of a sudden I stopped being able to hear anything from it. everything is plugged in where it should be and as it should be, but still nothing. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong, what I can do?

    Thanks in advance..

First double check that the audio plug is fully inserted into the socket on the rear of the computer.

Are you sure that you have not inadvertently muted the sound system? Check in Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices? I'm assuming XP here.

If the speakers have a power light - is it on?

Do you hear any sound at all from the speakers when you plug/unplug the speakers into the computer with the computer powered up. At the very least you should hear a click or crackle.

If the speakers are silent when you do the above and they are powered from a separate transformer is this receiving power - check the fuse in the mains plug.

Take a look in Device Manager at Sound, Video and Games Controllers - any yellow exclamation marks against any entry - or question marks?

Thank you so much for your response. I checked the volume control by clicking on the speaker icon on the task bar (because everything was plugged in correctly etc) and the volume was all the way down.. don't know how it got that way but that was it. Only thing is though, I decided to then try my 'Yahoo Audio Setup Wizard' to ensure that all is well there because I was hoping to speak with my sister over yahoo tomorow but when I try I get this message:

    Quote:

No suitable wave format was detected.
    Probable cause:
    - Other audio applications are open. Close all other applications and retry the test.
    - You have no sound card installed.
    - The sound device/drivers maybe corrupted.
    - The sound device does not support any suitable wave format.

I do not have any other application opened.. and as for the other suggestions, not sure how to work those out.

    Any suggestions?

    OS.. Windows 98

    Again.. thank you,

    :)
