cd drives

Not sure why but my DVD Drive and my CD-RW drive both do not show up anymore. In Device manager they both have yellow exclamation points which come right back when I remove and reinstall them. Any ideas? I know they have power and the controller for them comes from the system board (Dell Dimension 4300 Tower).. Thanks for your time...

When you go into DM > properties for the drives, what does it say about working or not working "properly "?

Have you tried updating the drivers?

Have you tried a System Restore back to just prior to this problem?

Have you installed software/updates between now and the onset of the problem?

If you put a cd in, will it spin up?

Hi Top Dog,

As far as I can tell, the Sony DRM RootKit doesn't disable the cd drive - attempt at removal does.
