    Hi,
I'm a very inexperienced XP user - I have a simple but annoying problem (I can't access an answer via FAQ). I use Outlook Express for my email and it works just fine. However, almost every time I switch on, after a while, a small Microsoft Outlook window appears in the centre of the screen asking

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill he messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client. "

I just click OK and get rid of the window. Can someone tell me how to stop this window from appearing each time I turn on. I'm happy enough using Outlook Express.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. :)

Just curious, but what is the default e-mail program listed in the Internet Explorer options box? (Tools --> Options --> Programs)

If there is nothing listed there, or if Outlook is set as the default mail program, you may get this message. You want to make sure you have Outlook Express listed as the default mail program.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the advice Kathie - I do already have Outlook Express selected as email default so the problem must lie elsewhere.

Are you having problems with Outlook Express (OE) or with Microsoft Outlook (part of Microsoft Office)?

Outlook and Outlook Express are both email programs but they operate very differently and if you are having OE problems I'll move the topic to IE/OE where it will get proper attention.

Thanks for answering Newt - sorry to repeat myself, but I use Outlook Express and it works fine - except the problem I state in the earlier part of the thread - that I continue to get the above mentioned window saying "Either there is no default ...etc etc.....please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default client. So yes, if you can move this query to EI/EO I might touch lucky and find someone who can show me how to stop this window/box from appearing.

    thanks for your help

    Thanks for the clarification.

Do you have Microsoft Office installed? If so, I would do a repair of Office, set MS Outlook as the default email client, reboot, then set Outlook Express as the default email client.

After that (or if you do not have Office installed), from a start->run line, key in sfc /scannow and click OK. You will probably be asked for your XP CD (and maybe quite a few times) during the Windows File Protection scan and repair.

DoPe, I know what you mean because I just got a new H-P laptop and am having the same problem. I haven't found whats wrong yet so please let me know if you correct yours and I'll keep looking. If I have to try what newt says, if its the only way, I guess I'll do it.

DoPe, did you activate AOL on your computer? I did and I'm wondering if our problem has anything to do with AOL. just a thought.
