Home built system. Using win 98 se, tyan motherboard and 700 intel cpu. After hurricane and power restored the system does not have any video. I changed the pci video card and also tried it in another pci slot. I changed the monitor. Checked all connections and motherboard battery. Still nothing showing on monitor screen at any time. If I hit the power on button the fans and drive run. Also pushing the power button again does not turn off the system. What do you think the problem may be?

I would check the power supply and motherboard. Either the motherboard itself is not receiving power or the board has gone bad.

    Whiskeyman,
I could not see how it was the power supply as the drives and lights came on. I was thinking it was the motherboard. I went through my box of spare parts and found a power supply. After installing it the system works fine. Just will need to get a bigger one as it is only 190 watt and it had a 300 watt one before. Any way I found out what the problem was.

Beware of cheap power supplies. Even though a power supply is rated 300W doesn't mean it is actually outputting enough power to the board itself. Also you can get power to the drives but not the board if part of the PSU is faulty.
