We are a laptop college and only allow our hardware on the network. We run W2003 with DHCP, DNS and Active directory, all of our switches are cisco 2950.

Is there some hardware or software that I can get that will let me know when a non-authorized piece of hardware is on the network?

Google for network asset tracking and take your pick.
