When you send email to a group of people, how do you show each individual name in the 'to' line and not all the other names. I know about 'b.c.c.' but this wouldn't solve the problem cos then I would not have each person's name addressed to them. :( :(

If I understand you correctly, you want all of the names to show in the "To" line. I use Outlook Express and just click on the "To" line. When the address book open, I pick out the names I want and put them over into the "To" window. Everyone sees all of the names the mail was sent to.
I don't use other e-mail programs, but most of them are about the same.
    Hope this answers your question.

Welcome to the boards, Mitch :)

I'm not too sure that I understand your question.

If you insert all of the recipients into the "To" field, evrybody will be able to see all of the other recipients.

Using the BCC field, each recipient will see only his/her name in the "To" field (so Bob will see only his name in the "To" field and will not know that the mail he has received was also copied to Tom and vice versa).

    Does this resolve your problem?

    Mitch,

As brett said, the BCC does show the name of the person receiving the e-mail. They will see their own name, but no one else's.

There is also a feature that allows you to group several people together into one mailing list. You can name it Family, Friends, or whatever. Just open your address book & go to the New tab & you will see New Contact, New Group & New Folder. Choose New Group. Then from there you can pretty well figure it out how to add names. You can use these groups to send particular types of stuff to. When you want to send something to a particular group just select that group from your address book & place it into the To, CC, or BCC category. OE will send it to everyone in the group you've chosen. BCC will hide all of the names except the name of the person receiving it with the group method, the same as it does picking names individually.

Thanks, lads, for your replies, but I'm afraid it doesn't solve my problem.
I've tried what you suggest. If I put the group name on the bcc. line I just get 'undefined' name on the 'To' line. If I put the group on the 'To' line, I get a list of the people in the group.
What I want to do, is send an email to a group, but each recipient to be addressed individually on the 'to' line - without having to do it all by hand, one by one.
It's hard to explain, but perhaps you can understand?
Thanks for persevering to find a solution to my problem.
Oh. And Ireland are through to the next round of the World Cup!!

    You've been promoted, Deloris :D

I don't have OE (which is, I assume, the client you are using) installed so cannot put this to the test; but I think if you enter one name in the "To" field and the rest in the BCC field, this shall have the desired effect.

Sheer good fortune and nothing else :p

    brett,

I noticed that right off & only a man would consider that a promotion. :p

I am a bony lass, & proud of it. Yes, I said bony! You know, bony, as in a hank of hair & some peices of bones thrown together, with some skin draped over them. :D

Maybe in Ireland, Deloris is a man's name. Could be ya know! I've met men named Beverly before. :D

The Lad is just confused.

    I forgive you Mitch. :)

I'm sorry we couldn't help you Mitch.

Still trying to address my Group members

    Deloris,
No offence meant!! In Ireland, 'lads' is a sort of generic grouping for people you like - male and female!
Actually, I am female - not a male 'Mitch' as in US!
Thanks for all your efforts. I am going to give it another go with Brett's suggestion. Yes, I have got OE
    Great site. Good fun.
Regards to all - men, women and others
    Mitch
