    Sirs,

How can I delete an attachment from an incoming email under Netscape 7.2,
without destroying the date, time and sender information of that email ?
I know how to do this trick using "Edit Message as New ", but in that case I myself will be the sender with the date and time of the last action.
I thank you in advance for a good suggestion.

    Welcome to the Forum, edveling!

    edveling,

If you highlight the attachment, then press the DEL key, that attachment is gone, without any effect to the original sender or date...

    Unable to

    Dear Ramona,

Your suggestion did not work at least in my case.
When I highlight the attachment, and press DEL, the whole email message is moved into the Trash.
When I press "Edit Message as New" I can delete the attachment, but then, I become the sender and the date and time is the date and time of that moment.
Is there maybe still another option ?
I thank you for your attention.

    Ed,

It shouldn't delete the entire email if you only highlight the attachment in the upper right hand corner of the email. Are you sure this is what you did? Works for me every time...

    Ramona,

Yes indeed, I highlight the attachment and press DEL and the whole message disappears into the TRASH.
Is it possible that it is dependent of some setting under PREFERENCES?
In which setting file do I have to look?
Or can I send you such a file for comparison with yours?
I thank you for your attention.

    Ed

    Ed,

I'm attaching my mail window for you to compare with yours. As you can see, I have highlighted the attachment which I wish to delete. I press the Delete Key on the keyboard, and only the attachment is deleted. The message remains the same...

    Ramona,
I tried first from Thunderbird1.5, and it worked as you said. But, if I did in NS7.2, the entire e-mail was gone. Unfortunately, I could not check the e-mail elsewhere, since it was deleted, and, had closed 7.2.

Very strange that this is happening to you and Ed. I have sent myself 5 messages, with attachments, to my Netscape 7.2 Mail Account. In all 5 instances I am able to delete one of the attachments. The message remains as is...

    EDIT:
O.K., I'm really confused now, as today all messages I've sent myself are deleted when I delete the attachment?

Someone just pointed out that the screen shot I used is of Firefox. DUH!
So sorry Ed. Looks as if edit as new is your only alternative...

If you do switch to Tbird, you might be interested in the TB Attachment Tools extension, which gives you a number of options when dealing with attachments. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available for Netscape.

How? I don't have website, but I have a cropped part of the e-mail in bmp form, about 200Kb in size.
The choices come up by right clicking on the attachment. And, the red X is of the type that you enter when you are crossing off something. The net effect is that e-mail shows the names of the removed attachment, and they are no longer visible. Only the name is left.
I, also don't have any extention.

    Westside,
I think you have to be a "$$ contributing" subscriber ( paid the fee) in order to post images/attachments here.

    Check out:
    http://www.imageshack.us/

can you please post the UA string for the TB 1.0.7 that you are using..My UA for TB 1.0.7 shows:

    Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7 (Windows/20050923)

and I have NO options that you mention. Seamonkey does have the options.
No additional options are present in any OFFICIAL Mozilla release upto 1.7.12.

Release notes for TB.1.5rc indicate that attachement handling is/will be included.( whats new...)

    http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta2.html

There may be an extension for TB 1.0.7 as mentioned by JR I don't know ?

    regards:captjlddavis

    Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.7 (20050923)

And, you are correct, there is no such option in that version.
Explanation, which will be familiar to some of you is very simple. Repeated hijacking of the default of 1.5. I have been having two separate profiles which worked independently, but, since 1.5b1 nightly, I think, there have been hijackings. I would never know unless I went to Help|about Thunderbird, but, mostly, having a different default mail account. That thing has been leading by the nose, for a while. So, all that I was saying was done by 1.5, which must have taken over default settings, without being asked.
    Sorry guys.
