Recommendations for laptop

I'm looking for feedback about the purchase of a laptop. I no nothing about what to look for and have no idea what to compare. What are reputable brands? If using at home, for email and internet, what size HD do I need? Is it easy to transfer files using XP wizard from laptop to a computer not connected to internet?

What is your budget?

Just bought 2 of these and was very happy. The hard drive RPM is slower than I would like but it isn't noticable.

 

Thanks for the reply Scott. My budget for the purposes of this laptop is between $600-$800 or so. I have no idea what a good price for a reasonable laptop would be. I have a PC but just wanted a laptop that I could use when away from home (which isn't that often ;-)

 

Use this site http://www.dealcatcher.com/ and watch for some pretty good deals on Dell products. I managed a coupon for $700 saving (really) and have a great machine. In your case there are deals in your range. Remember with Windows XP to get at least 512mb of memory.
