First off.....there is a D partition on this computer(Copaq running WindowsME) that is named "system_save(D)" I assume this holds the "factory restore" for the computer and would be accessed if I used the "Compaq Quick Restore "? The D partition is 2.72 GB and about half of it is used.

I made a new restore point of today's system. when I check in the restore my computer area, there are two points showing.....one with todays date and one I am assuming was made when windows was installed?? (it has no title or date) has a time and "system checkpoint ". I was curious so I made yet another restore point. when I went to restore all three of them were showing.

Is it possible to delete earlier restore points? I read that the way to delete some of them was to go to system properties/performance/file system/hard disc and move the slider to a low percent. Does it mean % of what is on the slider?...cause my slider shows MB and it will only lower to 200mb...the max is 1999mb.....so I moved it to 200mb and said apply, ok...I then checked the system restore.....there were still 3 restore points there. Are they actually gone, but still listed? Do I now enlarge the space and create yet another one? If I try to restore to one and it isn't there.....what will happen? Will it tell me there is not restore point? Will it mess up the present system??
I read another thread that said if you enabled show all folders you could get to the restore points......I did the show all folders.....haven't been able to find those restore points yet? where the heck are all these points stored??
I would appreciate any help understanding this and only having the one restore point on the computer.
    thanks so much

    Hello Katy,

I'm not familiar with Compags - but from my reading your assumption is correct.

Is it possible to delete earlier restore points? I read that the way to delete some of them was to go to system properties/performance/file system/hard disc and move the slider to a low percent. Does it mean % of what is on the slider?...
When I was running WinMe, moving the slider all the way to the left was the way to clear all restore points. From what I remember, In ME, its not %, it is MB. That 1st Restore Point may be set by Compaq to be permenant, I don't know.

The folder that RP's are kept in is a System folder called _RESTORE. In the view tab of the folder options (bring up the drive > tools > folder options), scroll down to "Hide protected operating system files" and uncheck. You may be able to clear the folder in safe mode. However, I wouldn't fool with it :)

As a general rule, you should have that restore % large enough to hold at least a weeks worth of restore points, I would go with more. If you're not running another form of system backup such as Go Back or drive imaging, SR can be a life saver, so I recommend making use of it.

    Regards - Charles
