Well, it's not quite so simple ...

There are a couple of MS Excel tables containing a JPG logo which are published regularly on the net. The XLS tables converted (by MS Excel!) to HTM files show this logo when looked at with Netscape or Firefox - and even with IE when the HTM file still resides on my harddisk. Then I upload the HTM file (FTP) to the server and look at it - Firefox OK, Netscape OK, IE 6.0 not OK :-((

The trouble is - it's even more complicated - some of the tables show the logo with IE on the net, some don't. In my honest opinion there is no difference. I looked (I think) at each and every dark corner of Excel ....

    Any idea would be appreciated!

As soon as one is forced to write down the whole story somehow the path to a solution opens up ...

For the benefit of those suffering from a similar problem - here is my way out of this mess:

    - all the XLS tables converted to HTM and published stem basically from only 2 tables and have been copied and altered and copied and altered and copied and altered ....
    - the logo in one of the original tables (and all its derivates) is shown in IE, the other (and all its derivates) does not show the logo.
    - no difference is to be found in Excel nor in IE for these two groups of tables
    - the only hint to solve the problem was found in the image name created by Excel for inclusion into the resulting HTM code.
    - for any of the table derivates failing to show the image the name of the very first original table was still used for all images in all the derivates - inspite of all the different names given to the different table derivates.
    - because I could not find a way to persuade Excel to change this name, I looked at the XLS file directly with an editor capable of editing hex data, found the place in the XLS file where this name was stored (3 times), and changed it to all x'00'.
    - removed all instances of all previous attempts to convert, converted the XLS file to HTM again, and - was done! Everything was OK! All the tables now show the logo!
    - however I'm still not sure what to blame. If the rather peculiar name of the original table is the culprit, then why does Excel accept this name? If the continued use of a single name in all tables copied from the original is the culprit, then why doesn't Excel simply overwrite this name when a table is renamed???

    I wonder ...
