Help determining cause? [verifying DMI pool data]

    I have a friends computer it has a gigabyte board and a cyrix processor. It is running win98. The problem is when I try to start it I get the normal startup screens in dos but then it gets to the point after it states which irq's are assigned to what and immediatly after the "verifying DMI pool data" it just freezes. Is this a mobo issue, HD, or OS. Thanks
