I replaced my '98 PC with a new XP system. On the system I am using ( XP )
I get a Dial Up window when I open the email account or the browser. But on the new one downstairs I don't get the dial window automatically when I open ANY program requiring an Internet Connection. I've check all the settings I can think of and wonder how I can change this. I hate having to remember to manually dial up before opening Netscape or FireFox.

I also can't figure out how to direct my downloads using Download Manager to a certain folder other than the temporary folder in Documents and Settings. Is there a way to designate a different folder?

    vegaspat,

In Windows 2000/XP open the Control Panel Start | Settings | Control Panel Double-click Administrative Tools
    Double-click Services
    Look for the following services:

    Remote Access Connection Manager
    Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
    Telephony

Set all those services to automatic.

If that doesn't appear to work, set to the preference network.autodial-helper.enabled to true

This can be done in about:config

    Ramona,

Thanks. I finally got it figured out. I went into IE and checked the setting about Always dial this connection (?) That did the trick.

    Thanks for your help.
