    Hi,
Could someone tell me if it's possible to make a permanent change to the size and type of font set for the comments feature used to notate info in a cell please.

The default value is set at 8pnt which is way too small, I can change it each time I want to add a comment to a cell entry, but would prefer to have it set permanently to my requirements.

I have asked some software guys in computer stores and they tell me it's not possible to do and I've been through every option and customising menu looking for it but no go.

Would it be likely to be a registry setting or is there some obscure place where this change can be made.

Hoping someone has an answer :( :( :(

    Cheers

    Ron

Hi Ron, this is from the Help of Excel 2000 but should be similar in your Excel version:

"Change the default font and font size used in new workbooks
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.

In the Standard font box, click a font.

In the Size box, enter a font size.
Note You must restart Microsoft Excel to begin using the new default font and font size. The new default font and font size are used only in the new workbooks you create after you restart Microsoft Excel; existing workbooks are not affected. "

    Thanks for replying JohnB,

I've tried that before but that only changes the font in each cell, it doesn't change font size for comments which seems to default to "Tahoma 8pnt "

    Any other suggestions out there?

    Ron :(

Solution to Comments font size - Excel

After much searching around, here is how to change the font size of comments in Excel.

It's not a parameter that is actually set in Excel!!, It's a Windows desktop setting you change.

Right click on a blank desktop, click on the appearance tab then click advanced, from the dropdown box under item, select tooltip, change the font size and fontstyle to what you require and select OK, apply, and OK and your done.

The only disadvantage with it being a windows setting rather than excel, is that if you set the font size too big then when you hover the mouse over an icon and tooltips are active, the message displayed can be a little over bearing in size. But at least I've solved my problem, and someone else out there may have the same issue to be resolved.

Thanks to the people who replied!!!! :D :D

    Who would have guessed??

Harvey2004, thanks for the solution. I would never have guessed it was related to tool tips, but now that you see the solution you realize that the comments show up when you hover the cursor over the cell, exactly the same as a tool tip so why not comments in Excel! :)

Ever watch the TV show "Call for Help" on G4Tech TV, I'll bet the sometimes guest "Mr. Excel" would know about that one. :D

I just knew there would be someone else out there who had the same desire as me to change this - yet unable to do so.

It was good to be able to give some info back - I've had a lot of help here in the past, which is why I posted the solution.

Re "TV show "Call for Help" on G4Tech TV" I'm from Australia and unless it's on cable, (which I don't have) I'm afraid I've never heard of it, but would be nice to have access to something like this for all those nigglely little problems that arise. Thanks for your reply JohnB
    Cheers

    Ron ;)

Ron, Call for Help is broadcast in Australia but I think you're right about it being on cable. It is produced in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and broadcast in Canada, Australia and now back in the USA. Has lots of fans, tends to be a bit chatty but is entertaining and does have some good tips. I get it here in the boonies on satillite.

    Hi Harvey
I have had the same problem as you after I installed Office 2003 last month and found out that the font was set at Tahoma 10 Bold which I found too large and I preferred Arial as in my old Excel.

So now I have been able to reduce size to 9 and remove Bold by following your instructions but the system will not accept change of font to Arial from Tahoma?

Further I expected that I would be able to also take away Bold from my name, which is written automatically at the beginning of the comment but it will not accept that change either?

Would you have any idea of tips to solve the problem completely?

Hope to see you reply at BBS.

    Best regards
