    Hi,
I have DSL thru SBC Yahoo....Yahoo has started autoloading a mess of garbage to my computer in the name of attempting to avoid spam and viruses.....I don't care for any of this stuff,,,yet when I contacted SBC yahoo they claim they don't know how to recognize the files and values I need to change and remove ,,,which of course is not true.....
So...... I would like to remain using my DSL connection without Yahoo by totally removing all Yahoo files and functions and using Microsoft Outlook for Email.
    Is this a possibility???

Can I attach my Norton Anti Virus and my Firewall to the setup.....If so exactly how would I go about doing that...????

Exact instructions would be needed as I am knowledgeable and experienced in Regedit manipulation yet not an expert...

Sorry Maggie...for my level of experience that link is WTMI....Way Too Much Information....After reading all the info that does not pertain to my predictament I couldn't tell where the info was that did...

none of it seemed to answer my question......I just need to identify the yahoo function that autoloads/installs whatever they want without my permission so I can put a stop to any sneaky upgrades like they have recently installed without my permission...
Then I need to find where they deposited this new upgrade and eliminate it...thus keeping full control over anything that is added to my machine in the future....
Seems there has been an implied permission loaded against my knowledge in the registry and I would like to be able to identify it so I can eradicate it...

Most firewalls will warn of an impending "program install ". You would "deny / not allow" the request (may require a change in current settings). Unfortunately you are not given any details to what the update involves or possible resolves. Although this may be extreme, you could uninstall SBC Yahoo. Then do a registry search for any remains for final clean up. Then find a SBC Yahoo install disk prior to "Yahoo has started autoloading a mess of garbage to my computer in the name of attempting to avoid spam and viruses ". Then set your firewall to deny all updates from SBC Yahoo. Understand, their is an accepted risk in pursuing this suggestion.

    Thanks Dennis,
I actually did what you suggested before contacting BBS....
I uninstalled Yahoo but didnot go into the registry afterwards to find any stragglers...

Since I do have the setup disc I will do what you suggested and go into regedit to scrutinize any leftover files, before I reinstall Yahoo...

Since most of the intrusive garbage was recently auto installed I suspect it may still be there when the basics are eliminated....because it was still there the time I uninstalled Yahoo then reinstalled it.

This time I will find the settings in my firewall to deny any Yahoo updates...I think I will explore the setup disc for Yahoo and see if I can identify the autoloader...or updater file... :(

Good luck - hope for the best - post back with results.
Can understand your frustration. ISP's should provide services that allows a choice by their users. I'm with Charter Cable. They provide me with a connection... that I want. They offered me free AV and firewall with auto-update features, I declined. We are both happy. But you can't get around the rules of the wild wild West, I mean Internet. These tools are required (along with others). Must be kept updated and on occasion, an adjustment or two. It comes down to what you are comfortably with.
