I use Windows Me, OE and IE6. When Offline I am experiencing difficulty in opening my Windows\Offline Web Pages. I have followed the Microsoft instructions implicitly when online using 'Add to Favorites>Make available offline>Customise' or alternatively through 'Organise Favorites' and ensured 'File>Work Offline' is ticked. Once offline I click 'File>Work Offline>Open' but invariably get 'The Page is Unavailable' having been successful on only two occasions. All selected web-sites are Synchronised and in Tools\internet Options\Temporary Internet Files\Settings I have allocated 2 GB.

Apart from the the Windows Help File I have followed the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;196646
most of it concerned with 'How To' but very little on troubleshooting. I realise when online one can download a single webpage using 'File>Open' but in the case of an extensive index with several sub-indexes the 'Customise' mentioned above, allowing the selection of multiple pages deep, would be much quicker. However if no solution is forthcoming I will use the 'File>Open' route.

    Kind regards,
    Pat

Pat Alley--When you 'Add to Favorites>Make available offline>Customise' do you also Synchonize at the end?
A workaround to your problem is, when you are at a page you want to view Offline, is to click File|SaveAs|at the line "Save as Type" (using the dropdown menu arrow) choose WebArchive (.mht)/|choose where you want to save in the "Save In" line|Save|OK. Now you will have a single file, which when you are connected to the Internet, and click on it, will have active links. It will, however, not update, which is what Synchronize in the usual procedure will do. But maybe you do not want an updated page--rather just the one you saved.

I started playing with the feature on XP SP2 yesterday. And this morning. And around noon.

Something isn't right with the offline feature. I'd never messed with it before but whatever problem Pat is having, I'm running into exactly the same thing.

BTW - I ran the storage space up to 5Gb and only tried with one site at a time so that can't be the problem.

I also tried to find a similar feature in Firefox but had no luck - maybe just wasn't looking in the right place so I'll be posting a question to the Mozilla section in a minute.

Windows DiskCleanup, if set to run at reboot, can delete Offline files. Are either or both of you rebooting before you look for the Offline files again?
Regret I do not have time today, but will play with this tomorrow. I never use it, either. I use the save as .mht route.

I know I did not delete stuff. I added a site to favorites, set it for offline, forced a synch (which blew up the first couple of times so yes, I did dump info) and finally got one that looked clean. I told it to go 5 pages deep since I knew the site layout.

I was only ever able to load the home page minus pictures and minus any links to other pages that would work.

Oddly enough, while I had some better luck with .mht for the site, even that was not a thing of joy and beauty. It was missing some pieces. Go figure.

Just came across this. I run WinXP so do not know if it applies to earlier versions of Windows.
In Windows Explorer click Tools|Options. One of the tabs I see says Offline Files. I enclose a screen shot of the info on that tab. Perhaps this is the source of the problem?

Nice find Jim and that could certainly do it.

In my case, I don't use Fast User Switching and don't think I have enabled it but not at home to check and can't be sure. I'll look this evening though.
