Can't Use Search

    Suddenly, I can't use search in Win XP. All I see is that little dog but no place to type in a search word. Also, when I try to do a find in Internet Explorer 6 using Edit >
    Find menu, I type in what I'm searching for But "Find" is greyed out. Something must be corrupt. How can I fix this? Thanks.
