I had a problem with my shortcuts not showing the overlay that distinguished them as shortcuts. They simply showed up as program icons in the same manner as My Computer or the Recycle Bin on the desktop. No arrow.

I downloaded TweakUI from MS and was able to change the settings and the HTML links had their overlays intact. I could change the overlay and they would show the change. They were however, the only shortcut that would display the overlay. Any other type of shortcut did not display the arrow.

After some searching, I found on this site the answer (from a very old thread). I installed FreshUI { http://www.freshdevices.com/freshui.html } and found icon options for both html shortcuts and program shortcuts. I simply had to turn on the program shortcut overlay and reboot. Worked like a champ. FreshUI is also a freeware program for personal use.

Thank you windowsbbs.com for being here.
